I definitely knew that the second time around, of being a mother to a newborn, was going to be different. In EVERY aspect. One of which was breastfeeding. I only breastfed Jayden for a couple months because I had to go back to school, but, with Abel, I was determined that wasn’t going to be the case.

Before I even gave birth to Abel, I read up on the benefits of breastfeeding and how to be successful. A HUGE osbtacle that I had to get over from the start was nursing in public. I had some major anxiety and always planned our activites around breastfeeding. I would breastfeed Abel right before we would left the house and made sure we were back at home within 2-3 hours so I could feed Abel again.

That got real old, real quick..

I was given a nursing apron to help me nurse in public… which  I used for the first month or so of my breastfeeding experience, but it was really difficult to put it on quickly enough, I always had to readjust, and the worst part was that I had to do all this while I had a crying newborn laying on my lap. AND for a mom of a new baby that’s the LAST thing you want to deal with.

Then I discovered Cover Me Ponchos on Instagram, as soon as I saw the ponchos, I knew I had to have one, or two, or three..hehe. I literally went from dreading feeding in public to feeling so empowered of what my body was doing to provide for my newborn.

I was so amazed of how more protected and covered (360 FULL around the body to be exact) I felt when I used my ponchos for breastfeeding. The material and fabric are just so amazing. The ponchos are made from a lightweight, breathable, jersey knit fabric. (96% Rayon/4% Spandex). If you’re worried about “overheating” Don’t, because the material is supersoft and lightweight. Abel abosutely loves being under my poncho. AND thats not even the best part, it can used 3 other different ways (infinity scarf, stroller and car seat cover!).

After trying it out a few times, I eventually felt comfortable enough to breastfeed in the nursing/family rooms at the mall. Then it quickly went from the nursing rooms to right in the middle of a busy room. At first, I had to give myself pep talks when I started nursing in public.. “It’s ok, it’s just breastfeeding, It’s natural, your baby has to eat, who cares what others think”.

It still took a couple weeks until I personally felt ready to feed in public using the poncho. Not because the poncho didn’t work, but because there’s so much controversy about nursing in public, even while using a cover (very sad but I personally need a cover to nurse in public, because thats is the right choice for me and my family). Cudos too all the moms that don’t need one !!

I can proudly say that nursing in public no longer causes me anxiety. Nor do I plan around Abel’s feedings. I am a HUGE Fan of products that’s make it easier for us moms to go through motherhood, especially when it comes to breastfeeding.

I would highly recommend any nursing mamas or any future mamas to look into this product and maybe even add it to your “must haves” on your checklist.
