It Starts With You | Roma Boots Canada

Growing up in an immigrant family, with parents that hardly spoke English, was tough to say the least. We had nothing, constantly moved, and our outfits usually came from Value Village. Oddly enough, the Village is now one of my go to spots. We also donate clothing and food to families in need because it starts with you.

I’m very selective with who I partner with and when I read that Roma Boots gave back to the country that my family originated from (Guatemala), I was humbled.

Poverty is a global issue

Any issue, that involves children is important to me. An issue that involves innocent children is important to me. An issue that has my mothers home roots intertwined in it, is very important to me.  It starts with you.

For every pair of Roma Boots sold, a new pair is donated to a child in need. Additionally, 10 percent of all proceeds funds educational initiatives around the world! Over the last five years, thousands of Roma Boots have been donated to children in need in 25 countries on 5 continents. Let’s help spread the word in Canada.

If it wasn’t for my crazy father (read more about him: here) packing our bags in 1993 to bring his family to Canada, our family would most likely be on the receiving end of Roma Boots “Giving poverty the boot” Campaign. These are my roots and I will forever be thankful for the life I’ve been given. Not matter how tough, sad, and discouraging life can be, I’m still here, stronger than ever.

Teaching Jay and Abel the importance of giving back to our community has brought me many tears. Not because it’s hard for me to talk about my past, but because I’ve come to finally realize that my past has helped shape me. It has allowed me to see the world through rose coloured glasses – Where love eventually defeats evil. Call it naïve or call it ignorant, but I’m a very firm believer of looking at the glass half full and not half empty. If you want proof that love eventually wins. Just take a look at me.
