It can be difficult to know exactly what your kids want, especially if they’re at a young age! They may not even be able to communicate it to you. But, if there’s one thing that most children have in common, it’s that they love to feel unique.
This in mind, it’s a good idea to decorate their bedroom accordingly. Whether they’re a boy or a girl, 10 years old or 6 years old, there are a lot of unique, exciting ideas out there. Here are 5 unique Ideas For Decorating the Kids Room!
Storage
You probably don’t want any hard wood or metal containers lying around, with good reason. They can be dangerous for children, especially when they’re running about and playing. A colourful, soft storage basket is probably your best bet, giving you plenty of safe storage space.
Alternatively, a draw integrated directly into the underside of the bed is a subtle way to save room. Everyone chucks things under the bed, especially kids, so having drawers in that very same place is a quite elegant solution.
Beds
Kids love to explore. They’re curious, imaginative and playful, and their room should reflect that. These quirky kids cabin beds from Cuckooland look like something out of a fairytale, and they’re safe and comfortable to boot. And who knows, giving them a bed with a theme may actually make them want to settle down at night!
In a similar vein, you could try bedsheets and pillow cases based on their favourite superheroes and characters. Whether they like football, trains or animals, there’s a tonne of options. Make their room feel personal and you’ll probably see that huge smile on their face.

Wallpaper
Did you know you can buy wallpaper with built-in lights?! It’s amazing stuff. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think “kids room,” but it should be. After all, they do have a tendency to scratch the surfaces.
But, at the same time, you’ve probably never seen anything like it. And you kids won’t have either. It comes in a range of patterns and is utterly captivating. What’s more, this wallpaper cuts energy costs, so you’ll be saving money all year round.
Lighting
This is probably one of the first areas you should tackle, because it’s the most prominent. You can buy lights on pretty much every character in existence, from Pac-Man to Winnie the Pooh.
And, as a bonus, many of these can help the kids sleep. Night lights are common for youngsters of all ages, and buying a unique one can both make the room look good and improve sleep quality. Win win!
Curtains and Blinds
Besides wallpaper, this is probably the biggest feature of any room, taking up a lot of space and being a focal point. If you don’t get the right curtains, you’ll let too much light in at night. At the same time, a blind that’s too thin won’t block out that piercing sun over summer.
For boys and girls, a thick, blue set of curtains with a thin white underneath should solve both these problems. If they’re not partial to blue, a deep purple or strong orange should do the job just as well.
And that’s your lot! It can be quite hard to decide what to go with, but trust your parental instincts and you’ll be fine. Happy decorating!
